Shuri Castle, Okinawa, burned down in 2019 in an unexplained electrical fire. Soon, many craftspeople will complete its rebuilding. (Including some from Somakosha.)

Shimizu Corporation ran construction, managing the process and hiring all the craftspeople they coordinated into a large team.

The contract spanned 7 years and was roughly estimated at $70m USD. Last week, the carpenters and craftspeople visited the castle to see their almost completed work.

These photographs are from Kohei Yamamoto's time working on the project with Ken-san and Ta-Chan over the last several years, a short visit I made in April, and the ceremony they attended recently.
