Work on the Somakosha school and dorms continued through the peak of winter.

When Yama san came to work on the site, he saw with his own eyes the true condition of the structure.

Rather than rush or compromise, he made the call to take down more of the walls, much more rotten than expected, so we could build them anew.

Waka-san, Yoko Honda, Sakaguchi-san, and his son Ayumi worked on the restoration, cutting mortise and tenon, planing, and installing floors.

Apprentices and Ta-chan continued to work on the dormitory lintels for doors and windows, plaster, and electrical. I liked watching Clark run this groover upside down. I don't think he learned that move at Yale.

Akagi-san tiled the roof.

Carpenters sharpened on cold stones, working into the night.
